Pregnancy = A condition?

A friend of mine gave us free passes to a gym, actually it is a 3 month trial membership. So BG and I went down to sign up this weekend so that we have a place to work out while it is still chilly outside. Anyway, as we were filling out all of the necessary paperwork, they were asking us all sorts of questions, one of which was if we had any medical conditions. I thought to myself, is pregnancy really a condition? Well, I mentioned it anyway, not that you can't tell by looking at me that I am pregnant, but that can sometimes be an uncomfortable topic. He wrote it down, confirming the fact that some people think pregnancy is truly a condition. As we were driving home, I thought about it more and how some people think it is some sort of incapacitating medical phenomenon. Like when you are picking something up and people are all "don't do that, let me help you, you ARE pregnant." Yes, I am pregnant and perfectly capable of pretty much everything I was capable of before said "condition." I don't let pregnancy slow me down or stop me from doing things, well it slows me down a little, waddling takes way more time than a normal walk. But let me tell you a little secret, women have been doing this for years, lots and lots of years. Women used to give birth on bricks people, it is NOT a condition. Women used to be out picking cotton the day after they gave birth. Now a days, we don't experience anything close to this, at least not most people. Sure, it can be an excuse every once in a while, but that is just what it is, an excuse, something you use to get out of doing something you don't want to do! Anyway, off my soapbox and back to work!

All that being said, I still don't like being pregnant!

Uch, this is one of my pet peeves, as you know. Listen, pregnancy sucks but it's not a DISABILITY.

What's funny is that when I was pregnant people were always making me let them do things for me (well except my husband but that's another issue)...like for instance one time I knocked a few oranges off the display in the grocery store. They went rolling to the floor. I thought nothing of it and bent down to pick them up. A fellow shopper flipped out and rushed down to pick up the oranges for me, exclaiming something about me being pregnant. Now when I do something clumsy like that people glare at me like I'm some annoying idiot. It's amazing, the power of the pregnant belly!

That said, at the very end of my pregnancy I truly was somewhat disabled due to the hip/joint problems I have. I got to where I couldn't even go to walmart and grocery shop, the pain was too bad. Sure didn't stop me from waddling from a parking garage down a hill to get the mexican food I was craving!! :o) Even if the normal 30 second walk did take me at least 5 minutes w/ a lot of breaks...I went into labor that night so I guess it was worth it!

Wanna hear something crazy? Here, in the UK, the date you go on maternity leave is called your: Date of Confinement.

Isn't that nuts?

The thing that made me crazy was people insisting I sit down. Every where you go. PLEASE sit down, here have my chair.
No really I am ok. If I want to sit down I will. But they keep on and on.
My first advice to my sister was just sit down. It will make them crazy if you dont.
