I have received two gifts recently that have really meant a lot to me. It is not because they were something I desperately wanted or were the hot thing to have. It is because the gifts told me that the person who gave them to me really knows me! Let me explain...
The first gift was from my mom. I know, you are thinking hello, your mom gave it to you, of course she knows you. But this is more than just knowing what I like, this told me that not only do I illustrate that this is something that I like, which is important to me, but that she also got it. My mom is one of those really rare moms that can buy me clothes and I actually like them, actually she is more trendy and stylish than I am. But this gift was a cross and she gave it to me for Easter. It was not something that I asked for or even mentioned at any point in time. But she said when she saw it, she thought of me. That makes me smile! And I smile each time I wear it, because I know that it wasn't just a gift, but there was really thought behind it.
The second gift came from some friends of mine. It was special for a couple of reasons. First off, I used to work with these lovely ladies and they went out of their way to give me a baby gift, without a shower invitation or anything, just because they wanted to! The gift itself wasn't really out of the ordinary, it was GCs to Babies R Us, but it was how they went about getting it. It wasn't just one gift card for the amount that they wanted to give, but rather lots of little GCs that added up to the amount. So you are probably thinking, well that is kind of weird, but there is a reason, and a good one at that. They bought the GCs not from Babies R Us, but from a fundraiser that was helping a local church. What makes this special to me is that they know that I would appreciate that, just as much, if not more than the actual gift.
These gifts are really an encouragement for me. They show me that my life is being watched and that as a Christian, I am showing people that my faith is important to me. Not only that, but God is making an impact in this world through me, and THAT is cool!
